All subsidies
for employers, self-employed and employees
The government and certain sectors offer various subsidies to retrain your employees and thus strengthen your organisation. VAH Consulting hereby provides a brief general overview per region (and sector fund) of the possibilities for subsidies for employers and employees.
Subsidies – Flemish Region
The SME portfolio
- What: Subsidy measure by the Flemish government aimed at the self-employed, the liberal professions and small and medium-sized enterprises.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- Small enterprise = 30% subsidy
- Medium-sized enterprise = 20% subsidy
- Max 7,500 euros per year.
- Conditions?
- Provided that the training contributes to improving the current or future business performance of your company and focuses on your company’s core processes.

Flemish educational leave (VOV)
- What: The employee can attend training without loss of pay. The employer is reimbursed a lump sum.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- 21.30 euros per hour, per employee
- For whom / conditions?
- Employees in the private sector, employed at least 50%, working in the Flemish Region. (Calculate your employee’s entitlement to training hours here);
- Who follow a training course of at least 3 credits or at least 32 contact hours or teaching hours, registered in the training database (more info);
- Who have applied for Flemish training leave and received approval for it;
- If the employer submitted a reimbursement request and registered the VOV hours taken.

Training vouchers
- What: Training vouchers for employees in the Flemish government.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- None, the employee receives 125 eur subsidy.
- For whom/how?
- Per school year, an employee or temporary worker can buy training cheques for a maximum of 250 eur. The employee pays half, the Flemish government the other half.
- The employee applies for the cheques himself via the online counter of the Department of Work & Social Economy of the Flemish government.

Training allowance for employees
- What: Are you working as an employee in the private sector and interrupting your career to pursue training? If so, you may be eligible for an incentive payment under training credit. This is an additional benefit you receive from the Flemish government, on top of the interruption benefit from the RVA.

Workability vouchers
- What: Financial support for companies located in the Flemish Region, in drawing up a tailor-made employability plan and related actions, such as advice, guidance or organising training, always paying attention to the psychosocial well-being of employees.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- A maximum of 9,000 euro
- For whom/how?
- One-man businesses, SMEs and large companies (with at least 1 employee) from the profit sector and also organisations from the social profit sector, based in the Flemish Region.
- The employer applies for the subsidy via the European Social Fund (ESF) website.

Subsidies – Walloon Region
Paid educational leave
- What: The employee can attend training without loss of pay. The employer is reimbursed a lump sum.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- The Forem reimburses the training hours directly to the employer.
- The number of leave hours reimbursed to the employer is equal to the number of hours the course is taken. However, the total number of hours reimbursed is capped depending on the nature of the training taken and the number of course hours that coincide with the work schedule.
- For whom / conditions?
- Private sector employees working in the Walloon Region;
- Who choose a training course approved by the Walloon Public Service.
- The training must last at least 32 hours.

Training vouchers
- What: Training vouchers for employees in the Walloon Government.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- None, the employer pays 15 euros per cheque.
- For whom/how?
- An employee, temporary worker with an SME or self-employed person who attends certain training courses.
- These training courses must be directly related to the profession that the worker practices or at least contribute to the development of the self-employed worker’s professional activity or to the development of the worker’s technical and professional skills within his company.
- For a training cheque of EUR 30, valid for 1 hour of training, the employer pays EUR 15. The Walloon Region pays the remaining 15 euro.
- The employee applies for the cheques from the employer. The employer applies for the cheques via FOREM tél. : 0800/93.946.

Subsidies – Brussels-Capital Region
- What: If you are self-employed or have a small or medium-sized business located in one of the 19 boroughs of Brussels, you can benefit from the support measures of the Brussels Capital Region.
- How much subsidies for employer?
- You can apply for up to 50% subsidies for your training costs or consultancy.

Sector funds – Belgium
- What: Depending on your sector, you can often also apply for subsidies for training through an industry fund.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- Depending on the sector fund.
- For whom/how?
- To make sure your training qualifies, as an employer, it is best to check with your sector fund to find out what the conditions are.

- For example Cevora, for white-collar workers:
- Training premiums for employers | Cevora
- Your company does not need a training plan to be entitled to all premiums.
- Your maximum annual budget is €5,000.
- Any training that ended less than three months ago and for which you received an invoice or for which the trainer works in your company.
- How much subsidy for the employer?
- Per employee aged 45 or over: € 15 per hour (maximum € 90 per day)
- Per employee younger than 45 years of age: € 7.5 per hour (maximum € 45 per day)
